Thanks to all who joined our inaugural CFA Ladies Night, what fun! If you missed out, we can’t wait to see ya next time!

Here is the quote from the amazing blog Tristy told us about. Make sure to check out http://www.katerawlings.com

I am a CrossFit Woman
I do not wear makeup
I do not wear gloves
I do not do my hair
I do not ‘glisten’ or ‘glow’

I am a CrossFit Woman
I sweat
I grunt
I curse
I bleed

I am a CrossFit Woman
I will not shy away from failure
I will not hide me emotions
I will not quit
I will not hold back

I am a CrossFit Woman
I am a coach
I am a competitor
I am a daughter
I am a friend

I am a CrossFit Woman
I am confident
I am strong
I am beautiful
I am a CrossFit Woman

I think it’s time we start changing this pretty little box that society has put it’s little girls in. You should wear dress adorned in lace, be quite and polite, play with dolls and learn to cook. Ok…..so this is an extreme exageration, but there is some truth.

Soceity has this stigma that CrossFit women are breaking. You can be strong, confident and sure of yourself and not be a bitch. That’s right, I used the ‘B’ word. CrossFit women are kind, compationate, empithtic and on and on and on…..because let’s face it, we’ve all been there. We’ve all wanted to quite a wod half way through, drop the weight or take one more break, but we don’t. Why?

Because we are CrossFit Women!

Hey ladies – it was great to gather again last night! Below is the excerpt I read from a great book you should check out.

From the book, What I Know Now, famous women write letters to their younger self. Lisa Scottoline, author, writes:

“Here are the ten things you need to know:
1. Your hair matters far, far less than you think.
2. In fact, the way you look matters far less than you think.
3. “Can I ask a dumb question?” is never a good thing to say.
4. In fact, asking permission to speak is never a good idea at all.
5. While we’re on the subject, don’t speak to fast because you’re afraid of wasting your listener’s time. Listening to what you have to say is the highest and best use of anyone’s time. Even if your hair looks terrible.
6. And don’t edit what you say before you say it. That would be you, getting in the way of truth, and worse, your heart.
7. You are already working approximately 25% harder thant you have to to get the result you want. Chillax.
8. Don’t hang out with anyone who doesn’t understand why you are so wonderful, or who needs to be told, or who doesn’t tell you at regular intervals when you forget.
9. That little voice you keep ignoring is the only one you should ever listen to.
10. Love.”

And if anyone needs a little more inspiration, I pulled the CF stats for the “lady crush”

Fran, 3:50
Diane, 8:05 185#
Isabel 3:05
Filthy 24:04
Helen 10:20
FGB, 347
Cindy, 20
30 Muscle-ups, 8:37
500m Row 1:42
Elizabeth, 10:49
Deadlift, 300,
Shoulder Press,110
Back Squat 205(3)
Snatch 125
Over Head Squat 135
Grace 2:30
Max Pull-ups, 40

The fact that she can do 30 muscle-ups under 10 minutes is amazing. I think I might be with Tristy and Walker on this one…move over Angelina Jolie.

Here’s the article from last night we read (corresponding links we mentioned are below):

Top 10 reasons how women get fatter despite good intent
Charles Poliquin
4/27/2010

1. They do spinning classes. That and disco fly swatting will get you nowhere fast in your pursuit of lean physique.

2. They have Kashi for breakfast with skim milk for breakfast. Eat the cardboard box, it is higher in nutrients.

3. They go for coffee after training. Coffee is great pre-training, horrendous post training. You want high cortisol when you train, not after.

4. They follow a low fat diet, fearing that fat makes you fat. In the process, they avoid nutrient dense foods like avocadoes that would help much faster.

5. They consume soy products that shrink their brains not their hips because of the toxic levels of manganese.

6. They eat bagels because they are low fat. Gasoline is also low in fat. Would you drink that?

7. They don’t make time for themselves. Here is the best fat loss tip for women: take a week off just for you, no boyfriend/partner/husband and no kids.

8. They consume grains. Part of a healthy and balanced fat butt.

9. They use beauty products loaded with harmful chemicals such as parabenes.

10. They don’t follow the axiom: You are your schedule.

P.S. Men are dumb, but not that dumb. For example, I can’t believe that women think we fall for the following camouflage combo:

Diversion 1: sweatshirt tied with sleeves around butt to hide the fact that you should actually hang an orange triangle on it.

Diversion 2: 150-350 dollars hair cut.

Reality check:
The 150-350 dollars haircut does not attract our attention from the wide load. We actually don’t even notice when you get your hair done. If a male notices your hair cut, he is gay, or he has not admitted it to himself. (Proof? When he gets up from your couch, he rearranges the pillows.)

Women with the small weights on the bar and the extra gas left in the tank, I dare you to grow some cojones. Not literally. (Ewww.) But figuratively. Stop thinking of yourself as weaker than you are. Banish those “slow” or “old” thoughts from your head. Throw some mother****ing weight on the bar and make the lift happen. And run faster. And try for the extra pull-up and the handstand push-up. Maybe it won’t be perfect. Maybe you’ll fail. Maybe you’ll fail a bunch. I don’t care. That’s okay. You won’t die from failure here. More importantly, you’ll be living. Someone kinda famous once said to me: “You’re going to misstep and you’re going to find success. So what. I love you no matter how it turns out and most things are fixable (or not, so ****ing what).” This is the way to live life — with these thoughts in your head. Be bold, be brave, be invincible.” – Crossfit Watertown

The book we talked about last night is “The Inner Game of Tennis” by W.Timothy Gallwey
My favorite quote (w/ a slight modification):

Who said I am to be measured by how well I do things? In fact, who said I should be measured at all? Who indeed? Do we really think the value of a human being is measurable? It doesn’t really make sense to measure ourselves in comparison to other immeasurable beings. In fact, we are what we are; we are not how well we happen to perform at any given moment. The grade on a report card may measure an ability to do arithmetic, but it doesn’t measure the person’s value. Similarily, the time on the stopwatch may be an indication of how well I performed or how hard I tried, but it does not define me, nor give me cause to consider myself as something more or less than I was before the WOD.

had fun at my first “ladies night”! it was great getting to see everyone outside the gym and know all of you a little bit better!

UNBROKEN
Crossfit has its own language. Crossfitters use specific terminology when conversing with other crossfitters, whether inside or outside the box.

And for the record, “box” means gym.

The word “unbroken” in Crossfit means to perform a stated movement without rest. So, 20 box jumps unbroken means you need to jump on a box 20 times, without stopping between reps.

No rest. No thinking. No stuttering. Just work.

After this weekend, I now view the word “unbroken” from a completely different perspective.

I am moving forward with my life, without any negative influences. In order to remain UNBROKEN emotionally, I need strength and a positive support system. I am in control of this life and I refuse to live as a broken person.

I pledge to be UNBROKEN mentally. I am my own worst enemy in the box. I over think everything…crawl into my own head and then jeopardize my own performance. The Mohican Warrior Challenge exemplified this. No excuses. I need to avoid the pain cave (Thank you Chaz for this new metaphor) and push myself. One more thruster. One more burpee. Did I accomplish the goals I set for the challenge? Yes. I cleaned 103 lbs and did all of my overhead squats unbroken.

BUT I COULD HAVE DONE MORE.

Thanks for being an inspiration to us all, Carissa! for more, see http://carissaexplainsall.blogspot.com/

“It is ugly, it is tough, it is hard.
It is a lot of sweat, some spit, and all guts.
It beats you down so you can beat it right back up.
It’s “just five more” when you don’t have one left.
It’s about mind versus body, heart vs limits.
It makes the weak strong, and the strong relentless.
It’s wanting to stop bu never quitting.
For me, it’s not about time or reps or Rx,
it’s about building strength, confidence, and determination.
It is Crossfit.
and it’s beautiful.”

Good article on Skinny Fat:
