Read that article a couple of days ago…and read a couple of others talking about the same thing. I like OPT’s approach to nutrition where you take things out and bring them back in to see how you react to them. I think this is the direction we’re going. Some people can handle potatoes – 20 a day for 60 days…some people can’t (bloating). So the article is right in that the hard and fast rule is that grains/gluten and sugar are those that we should all be eliminating, but from there figure it out yourself.

Nugget thanks for weighing in. Agreed that excess sugars & gluten grains are major players in metabolic derangement, and emotional tracking is a great way to determine what effects your body and what doesn’t. I think the thing people tend to forget is: there are many other factors that play into body composition. Just removing grains and sugar is a great start but not the be all end all magic pill. Stress, perception of stress, sleep, training, hormonal balance all play a huge part in how are bodies build themselves. We’re all a little different and we all need to address individual factors that effect how we look, feel, and play.

This is something I’ve been telling my friends and family who are curious about paleo. Use it as a baseline diet because it encourages you to eat food that’s good for you and will make you healthier. After you do it for a while you can start experimenting. Most people in society eat a heavy grain/carbohydrate diet and say they feel “fine,” but they haven’t seen how they feel when they are on the other side of the dietary fence, eating nutrient-rich foods. The article bridges the gap to a more mainstream audience, in my opinion.
